Firefighters from across Sussex are battling to tackle the Uckfield fire
FIRE crews from across the county have been called to an outdoor fire amid warnings of “exceedingly severe” wildfires.
Firefighters from Uckfield, Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne and Pevensey battled the blaze that broke out on Lewes Road in Uckfield.
The grasslands in the area became charred as the fire spread, and crews used hoses and other equipment to contain and extinguish the fire.
The latest fire comes amid a string of other wildfires that have erupted across Sussex in recent days as dry conditions continue and temperatures remain high.
The Met Office has warned that parts of Sussex, including Uckfield, are at risk of seeing “exceptionally severe” wildfires today, with an amber extreme heat warning in place through the end of the day.
However, the dry spell could be coming to an end as rain is forecast later in the week.
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms goes into effect tomorrow from 10am, with heavy and thunderstorm downpours expected in certain parts of the country.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has been asked for comment.
