Firefighters reveal probable cause of field fire near Forest Row

A FIRE that broke out in a field could be due to a short circuit on a power pole.

The fire broke out around 1.45pm this afternoon on Hartfield Road in Forest Row near Crawley.

Two fire engines and two Land Rovers from the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were present and put out the fire, which is estimated to have affected almost four acres.

The fire service said it may have been started “accidentally by a power pole shorting out.”

UK Power Networks was present.

The fire department spokeswoman added: “This is the latest in a series of calls on outdoor fires in recent days and the fire service is reminding everyone to be alert to the dangers of the drought.”
