Firefighters tackle a vehicle fire at a Shell workshop near the A27

Firefighters tackle a blaze at a gas station after a car burst into flames.

Smoke could be seen from the fire at the Shell petrol station on Arundel Road, Fontwell, and flames shot into the air.

Firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue are at the scene of the incident.

Restrictions have been put in place along part of the A27 as emergency services battle the fire causing some traffic in the local area.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “At 1.37pm we were called to a vehicle fire on Arundel Road, Fontwell.

“Fire trucks from Bognor Regis, Chichester and Littlehampton were dispatched to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found a burning car and firefighters are currently putting out the fire with a compressed air foam system.”

It comes just over three years after another fire burned out the gas station, as an RV blaze spread to other areas of the site.
