Firefighters tackle the bus fire in East Grinstead town centre

Firefighters were called to a city center after a bus burst into flames.

Firefighters from the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were at the scene of the fire on London Road, East Grinstead around 2.15pm this afternoon, with police closing the road to traffic.

Fire engines from East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and East Sussex Fire and Rescue attended the incident, with SCBA crews fighting the fire with hose reels and a thermal imaging camera.

A spokeswoman for the fire department confirmed that the bus was evacuated prior to their arrival and that the cause of the fire was accidental ignition.
