HERE is a first look inside a pub and hotel following a £1million refurbishment.
The Downs Hotel on Warren Road, Woodingdean has recently reopened after a three month closure.
The pub and hotel has been remodeled by the Stonegate Group with a new outdoor seating area at the front, eight upgraded hotel rooms and a refurbished area on the ground floor.
Downs Hotel general manager Nick Whiteacre said it was an “exciting time” for the business.
“We are very happy to be open again. It was a big task and the end result is just brilliant,” he said.
“It’s been nice to hear the buzz and chatter about what we’re doing here and now the doors are open again, customers can see it in all its glory with their own eyes.
“This is a great pub for family and friends to meet. It’s all about the community, we’re family-friendly, dog-friendly and accessible to all – quite simply, we’re your friendly local. It is full of character with all modern comforts and services.”
The two storey building was built in 1927 and has the words ‘Downs Hotel’ painted on the roof tiles which were used to help RAF pilots get home during the Second World War.
Entertainment in the pub includes evenings with acoustic music and quizzes. There is space for group bookings to celebrate special occasions or hold business meetings.
The venue is open daily from 10am and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. A new menu offers a selection of pub favorites and traditional Sunday roasts, among other dishes.
Nick added: “We’re here for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, a morning coffee or a drink and a chat with friends or family.
“Enjoy a quiet time, watch a game, take a quiz, relax with music, or have a meal for a special occasion or no occasion at all.
“We’re open to everyone, whatever the reason, that’s the beauty of a pub, you don’t need a reason to come by, although I have to say you do have to come and see what we’ve made of the pub. This is a great new chapter for The Downs Hotel.”
