A teenager who died after falling from a theme park ride has been named and pictured.

Tire Sampson, 14, slipped out of his seat during the Free Fall – a 430-foot tower ride at ICON Park in Orlando, Florida, USA that leans forward before falling and reaches speeds of 75 miles per hour.

Friends and family looked on helplessly as he fell to the ground around 11pm on Thursday.

The tragic schoolboy – who was on furlough – was named by police at a news conference today.

There were no seat belts on the ride, just the plastic pull-down straps that buckle between a driver’s legs.

In a video clip of the incident, a driver can be heard telling a concerned guest, “There are no seat belts.”

A photo of Tire was taken before the ride blew up and shows him sitting with his seatbelt unbuckled rather than being pulled down to buckle it up.

It is not clear if the harness was fully buckled before the start of the ride or if it came loose during the ride.

An investigation is underway.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina told reporters at the scene, “It just seems like a terrible tragedy.

“We’ll see what that brings.”

The video shows the ride to the top of the tower before Tire slides to the ground.

Another park employee runs to the dispatcher and asks, “You didn’t check it!?”

He insists he did and she asks again, “Are you sure?”

Tire’s family paid tribute to the “gentle giant” on social media.

His stepmother Wendy said: “Tyre was a respectful gentle giant.

“You will really be missed son,” she added.

It is the second accident at the park in two years. In 2020, a park employee died while working on the StarFlyer ride.

ICON Park on International Drive has not yet commented on the recent tragedy.
