First round of French presidential elections – POLITICO

The French vote today in the first round of the presidential election. They must choose from 12 candidates, including incumbent Emmanuel Macron, far-right leader Marine Le Pen, TV pundit-turned-candidate Eric Zemmour and far-left arsonist Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

The two candidates who collect the most votes on Sunday will advance to the second round, scheduled for April 24.

First forecasts from leading pollsters – usually close to the final result – will be released at 8pm, with official results released later in the evening.
