FIVE people have been arrested on suspicion of spiking after a woman felt unwell in the city center.
A 19-year-old woman was helped by nightclub staff after feeling unwell on a night out on West Street in the early hours of October 2.
Officers patrolling the area were quick to attend, launching an investigation and working with the licensed venue to gather evidence.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Three men from Hampshire, two aged 35 and one aged 27, and a 26-year-old man from Worthing were arrested on suspicion of administering poison with intent to hurt or mourn.
All four men were released on conditional bail.
A fifth man, aged 37, from Hampshire, was also arrested. He was released under investigation while the investigation continues.
Detective Sergeant Sharon Rintoul said: “The speed with which we were able to make these arrests is not only a testament to the quick work of the bar staff and our officers, but another reminder of the importance of promptly dealing with potential spiking incidents Report.”
Police have urged anyone who has been spied, or if anyone you know has been spied, to report it immediately to bar staff, a police officer or call 999 so that evidence can be gathered as soon as possible.
