Fleur East says: ‘Strictly Come Dancing was the blessing of my marriage’

Fleur East said performing on Strictly Come Dancing every week in glamorous outfits was “wonderful” to her marriage of 12 years.
The singer and his radio DJ scored the first 40 points in Saturday’s BBC dance competition alongside her partner Vito Coppola, after performing a dance led by her pair selection at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom.
East, 35, said she channeled her inner Destiny’s Child in the TV special when she danced to a massive mash-up of ’90s US girl group songs to the achievement highest in the series.
Speaking of her perfect score on The Graham Norton Show, she said: “This has been the most iconic week of the show and to get there and get such a high score is unbelievable.
“Especially because it was very difficult to jump twice and was subjected to a lot of harsh criticism.”
East added that she had the opposite experience of the so-called ‘curse’ of Strict. She said: “The show was a blessing to my marriage, it was amazing.

“We’ve been together for 12 years and in your marriage, how often do you dress differently every week, and do all these sexy dances in front of your husband?
“After the Argentine tango, we were married again! So great.”
‘Strict Curse’ has seen several relationships form over the years between celebrities and their professional dance partners.
The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Fridays at 10:40pm.
