Florence Pugh confirms she and Zach Braff split earlier this year

Florence Pugh has confirmed her split from boyfriend Zach Braff, saying the pair have kept the news private because “it’s a relationship where everyone has an opinion”.

xford-born Pugh, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Little Women, has been romantically involved with Braff since 2019.

The 26-year-old had previously defended the 21-year age gap between her and Braff, 47, a filmmaker and actress best known for playing J.D. in the television medical comedy Scrubs.

In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Pugh spoke of their decision to end their relationship “quietly”, saying, “We tried to make this separation but the whole world didn’t. know, because it’s a relationship where everyone has an opinion. .

“We just feel like something like this really benefits us when we don’t have millions of people telling us how happy they are when we’re not together.

“So we did it. I automatically choke when I talk about it.”

Next month, the Marvel and Midsommar star will be seen alongside singer Harry Styles in Don’t Worry Darling.

Directed by Olivia Wilde, the film is set in the 1950s in an isolated, utopian community in the California desert, about an unhappy housewife and her husband, who are hiding a secret dark.

Pugh plays housewife Alice while former One Direction singer Styles, 28, plays husband Jack in the psychological thriller.

An early trailer released in May drew reaction after a glimpse of the passionate on-screen relationship of Pugh and Styles’ characters.

Pugh told Harper’s Bazaar: “When it comes down to your sex scenes… That’s not why we do it. That’s not why I’m in this industry.”

She admits that Styles’ popularity may have played a part in the discussions surrounding the film, but she’s clear that’s not her focus.

“Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have those kinds of conversations,” she said.

“It’s not something I’m going to discuss because (this movie) is bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are greater and better than that.”

Pugh also said how desperate she was to return to acting after the Covid-19 pandemic, such as being able to “run away with the circus”.

She previously revealed that she suffers from a health condition known as colloidal disease, which can cause respiratory infections and means she has to be especially careful during the height of the pandemic.

Talking about going back to work, she said: “I think one of the draws for me is that I can see many places, see people, make friends with people, love people, and then that goes on and on again.”
