A guitar used by Dave Grohl in one of the first Foo Fighters hit videos is about to go on sale.
His Gretsch White Falcon, played by Grohl in the 1997 video for Money Wrench, was originally owned by American rock band rhythm guitarist Pat Smear.
It was widely used on the second album The Color And The Shape released that year.
It is expected to fetch between £15,000 and £30,000 when it goes up for auction at Wiltshire-based professional music auction houses Gardiner Houlgate on September 7.
The guitar is on sale with a Polaroid photo taken by Smear of Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore playing it.
Auctioneer Luke Hobbs said: “This is a very exciting instrument as it is one of the few owned by the Foo Fighters, arguably the biggest rock band on Earth, ever to be publicly auctioned. .
“Monkey Wrench is the band’s breakout single and the first to feature drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically died this March.
“I am expecting interest from all over the world. The fact that it appears so prominently in the band’s iconic Monkey Wrench video makes it all the more appealing to collectors and fans alike.”
The white falcon is being sold by a private collector.
Pat Smear, who was also the rhythm guitarist on Grohl’s previous tour of Nirvana, purchased the guitar in 1996.
