Rat walks around wetherspoons while customers stand on tables
The footage captures the shocking moment of Wetherspoon players screaming in terror and standing on the tables and chairs as a rat scurries around their feet.
Sean Maguire was trying to have a drink with some of his friends at the Bishop Vesey Wetherspoon pub in Birmingham on May 12 when the rat started causing havoc.
In the footage of the 23-year-old student teacher, several suitors stand on chairs and tables as they all become hysterical after noticing the rat scurrying about.
In the clip, Sean can be heard yelling, “Guys, there’s a rat in the Bishop.” While another shocked customer simply said, “Dude.”
As the camera pans across the busy pub, dozens of suitors can be seen seated on tables and chairs, all looking to a different corner, showing where the rat is believed to have run.
Sean defies it and says he’ll “investigate.” He sidled over a nearby table in the busy bar and within seconds spotted the curious rat under the table
He yells, “Oh my god. Oh my god,” at which point the rat is shooed away by the group and immediately scurries away.
Sean said: “It was about 11 o’clock at night, I was sitting around a table with my friends when everyone started jumping on the tables and screaming.
“The rat then ran under our table, so we did the same thing, I started recording and got it in front of the camera.
“Then, not long after, the bar staff asked everyone to leave.
“She [Wetherspoon staff] were kind of just climbing – I don’t think they really knew what to do.
“They just told everyone to go. I laughed, to be honest I thought it was hilarious.
“If there’s one pub you’re going to find a rat in, it’ll be a Wetherspoons.”
Sean shared the video online and it has since attracted over 130,000 views. A number of online users expressed their shock at what they saw.
One said, “I would have run away.” Another wrote: “I would be gone.” A third added: “How are people still there?”
While one person commented, “Somehow this is the most British thing I’ve ever seen.”
Wetherspoons were contacted for comment.
