Arrests linked to football have skyrocketed amid a rise in violent riots and assaults on the pitch, new figures show.

In the 2012/22 season there were nearly 2,200 arrests at international and domestic matches involving English, Welsh clubs and national teams.

The number is 59 percent higher than 2018-19, the last normal year of play before the Covid pandemic, and the largest in eight years
