The Ford Ranger Raptor is easily my favorite modern pickup.
The only negative is that its 2.0-liter diesel engine produces only 210 horsepower.
So while it performs well, it pales in comparison to the V6 Raptor you can buy in the US.
But Ford listened to its customers and launched the second-generation Raptor and it’s much more of an animal.
And that’s because it comes with a new twin-turbo 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6 petrol engine tuned by Ford Performance to make 288bhp and 491Nm of torque.
But that’s not all, the engine has an anti-lag system similar to that of the Ford GT and Focus ST road cars allowing for quick delivery of turbochargers on demand.
A new anti-lag system, available in Baja mode, keeps the turbochargers spinning for up to three seconds after the driver reverses the throttle, allowing for even faster acceleration out of corners or through the wheels. teeth when the driver reverses the throttle. .
Ford Ranger Raptor
Engine: Gasoline 3.0 liter V6
Gear: 10 speed auto
Tire: 33 inches all terrain
Suspensions: Fox damper valve 2.5 inch
There are four different driving modes, Quiet, Normal, Sport and Baja Mode.
Baja mode offers the most furious exhaust configuration in terms of both volume and note, as the exhaust behaves like a straight running system – happy days.
For derv enthusiasts, the current 2.0-liter EcoBlue twin-turbo engine will continue to be available in the new Raptor.
Ford has not released fuel economy figures for the new V6 petrol engine.
So it would be interesting to compare it with a diesel engine whose combined figure is around 30mpg.
Like the previous generation Raptor, the new one is equipped with Fox suspension but it has been completely redesigned.
There are new aluminum top and bottom control arms with long travel front and rear suspension.
Add to that a tweaked Watt-link rear end plus new 2.5-inch Live Valve Fox internal shock absorbers.
The Raptor also rolls on 33-inch all-terrain tires, and together with four specific off-road modes, Slippery, Sand, Mud/Ruts and Baja, it should be nearly unstoppable.
And to demonstrate just how capable the new Fox suspension is, Ford accidentally jumped the Raptor off the back of a moving plane. . . like you do.
