ardaí in Kells are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the woman’s fatal attack and a man in his 30s has been arrested.
They were responding to a call from an unresponsive woman at a home in the Rathmore area in the early hours of the morning.
National Ambulance Service personnel were also at the scene and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body remains at the crime scene, which is currently being held for forensic and technical investigations.

A senior investigating officer was appointed at Kells Garda Station and an interim office established.
The area where the incident took place is in the town of Rathmore, approximately 4km from Athboy on the road linking the town to Navan.
It is a detached bungalow next to an unoccupied house and a small rural church and opposite a school which is closed in summer.
Gardaí continued their forensic examination of the crime scene today after the woman’s body was removed for a post-mortem.
It is understood the woman and others rented the property and had moved there in the last year or so.
It is believed that they had previously lived in the Westmeath area.
A car, a van and another rental vehicle were seen in the bungalow’s driveway, and Gardaí had collected a number of evidence bags, which were removed for forensic analysis.
