The 50-year-old collapsed over the weekend while out with his children and is currently being treated at a London hospital. The former ODI wicketkeeper coached the Netherlands cricket Team since April 2017.

The horrific news of Campbell’s heart attack was shared by 6PR breakfast host Gareth Parker, who is a close friend of Campbell’s. The pair had recently spent time together when Campbell returned to Perth.

“WA Cricket is shocked to hear of Ryan’s medical emergency after suffering a massive heart attack over the long weekend,” Western Australian Cricket Association boss Christina Matthews said in a statement.

“On behalf of all WA Cricket staff, players and the entire cricket community, I would like to extend our heartfelt thoughts to Ryan, his wife Leontina and their family at this time.

“We know he is in the best of care and we hope he pulls through and has a full and speedy recovery.”

Campbell – described by Parker as “fit as a fiddle” – enjoyed a stellar career playing 98 top-flight games between 1994 and 2006. He had played two ODIs for Australia in 2002 and was a mainstay for WA cricket.

Warne suffered a fatal heart attack in March aged 52 on the Thai island of Koh Sumai. Last month he was due farewell when his state funeral took place at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Millions of people from around the world tuned in to pay their respects after Warne’s death was followed by a spate of mourning and tributes. Another Australian cricket legend, Rod Marsh, had also died of a heart attack less than 24 hours before Warne’s tragic death at the age of 74.
