A FORMER badminton champion from Kerry who admitted paying mothers let him sexually abuse their children was remanded in custody next month on conviction.
Immy Duggan, 35, of Mountain Lodge, Annagh, Tralee, has pleaded guilty to nine separate counts in breach of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017 in Tralee Circuit Court, Limerick.
Duggan, a former supermarket manager who also worked in agriculture, admitted he “paid money” to “take a child for the purpose of sexual exploitation” of women, including the children’s mothers, on different days and different days to get places.
He is believed to have met the women through online dating sites, social media and a classifieds site, and paid thousands of euros for photos and videos of the children and for their sexual exploitation.
None of the women may be named in order to protect the identity of the children. All child victims and their siblings were taken into state care.
Duggan appeared in court via video link, remanded in a prison where he is being held on other similar charges, which he has also admitted. He admitted paying the mother of a seven-year-old girl to use the child “for the purpose of sexual exploitation” at an address in Kerry on a date between January 1, 2019 and September 29, 2021.
He also pleaded guilty to paying another woman to “obtain” the same girl for the same crime, in the same place, on approximately the same dates, and he did “for sexual purposes, invited, arranged for, advised or abetted.” (the girls) to touch him” in the same place, around the same dates.
He also admitted to two separate charges that he “deliberately engaged in sexual activity” with the girl’s mother while the child was present “in order to obtain sexual gratification from the presence of a child.”
Contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Rape) (Amendment) Act 1990, as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001, Duggan admitted a further three counts of sexual assault against the girl at the same location and same dates.
He also pleaded guilty to “communicating with another person using information and communication technology to facilitate the sexual exploitation of the girl.”
In another unrelated case, Duggan and a woman are awaiting sentencing after previously pleading guilty to a total of six charges of “knowingly manufacturing and distributing child pornography.”
The woman has also pleaded guilty to “sexually exploiting” a child, who is her son, on unknown dates between July 19, 2015 and April 27, 2016 at an address in Kerry, in violation of Section 3 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.
The woman also admitted that on March 20, 2016, at an address in Kerry, she “knowingly produced child pornography in the form of online text conversations discussing the sexual assault of children with another party for the purpose of distribution, export of.” publication, sale or exhibition”.
She pled guilty to another charge of “knowingly producing and distributing child pornography for distribution, publication, export, sale or display” on unknown dates between July 19, 2015 and April 27, 2016 and “knowingly distributing.” ‘ similar material guilty for sharing, sale or exhibition on March 21, 2016.
In this case, Duggan has previously pleaded guilty to “knowingly” possessing indecent pictures of children on his mobile phone at a location in Limerick on April 28, 2016.
He has also admitted that on a date between 19 July 2015 and 27 April 2016 at an address in Limerick he “encouraged or knowingly caused or facilitated any activity set out in the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1988 for the purpose of des.” distribution, publication, export, sale or exhibition”.
In a third case, unrelated to the other two cases above, Duggan and another woman are awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of child sexual exploitation at locations in Munster.
In April 2004, then 17-year-old Duggan began to dominate the local badminton scene in Kerry. An article reported on his treble victory that year when he clinched the Top Part County Badminton Mixed Doubles Championships at the Tralee Sports Centre.
