Former Brighton boss Graham Potter on his move to Chelsea

Former Albion boss Graham Potter has opened up about his excitement at joining Chelsea – and thanked Brighton for the opportunity.

Potter led Albion to a ninth place finish last season and this season got off to a brilliant start with the club in fourth place.

The 47-year-old became an early favorite for the job after it was revealed Chelsea sacked manager Thomas Tuchel yesterday morning.

The announcement was made at 3.45pm this afternoon.

Potter said on Chelsea’s website: “I’m incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this amazing football club.

“I’m very excited to be working with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and developing a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.

“I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for giving me this opportunity and in particular to Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support throughout my time at the club.”

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly said: “We are delighted to bring Graham to Chelsea. He is a proven coach and innovator in the Premier League that fits our vision for the club.

“Not only is he extremely talented on the pitch, he has skills and abilities that go beyond the pitch and will make Chelsea a more successful club.

“He had a huge impact on his previous clubs and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea.

“We look forward to supporting him, his coaching staff and the squad to reach their full potential over the coming months and years.”

U23 coach Andrew Crofts will take the lead on an interim basis.

His first press conference is tomorrow morning at 8.30am ahead of Brighton’s game at Bournemouth on Saturday.
