Lara Angell, 26, was a flight attendant at Virgin Atlantic before the pandemic and said the airline usually only has one type of snack for economy passengers but has more options in business or first class.

She told Sun Online Travel: “If an economy passenger said they didn’t like the snack, one of us could just go to the premium cabins and grab some snacks there.

“In Economy, for example, we didn’t have herbal teas, but if a passenger asked for one, we could just get it in Premium.”

Lara said there was another way sneaky passengers could get a better meal.

She explained that the flight would have a limited number of meals on board – some meat and some vegetarian.

She said meal service would usually start at both ends of the plane, so people in the middle would be served last.

If some meals had run out when the trolley arrived, passengers could request another meal.

Lara said, “We had a lot of demanding passengers when we did food service.

“Usually we had two meat dishes and one vegetarian dish. Sometimes you got into the middle and ran out of veggie options and someone said they were veggie – although they hadn’t told us that beforehand.

“In that case, I would say I could give them a premium meal instead, but the only option would be chicken, which they would say is fine.

“So they clearly weren’t vegetarians, they were just annoying and trying their luck to get a better meal.”

Forgetting to pre-order your vegetarian meal can increase your chances of an upgrade.

This was revealed by a flight attendant Ordering a pre-flight special meal could ruin your chances of a free upgrade.

While passengers can ask for another meal option before travel, e.g. B. vegetarian or gluten free, this could prevent them from being upgraded to a nicer seat.

Flight attendant Neil Jackson, author of Welcome Aboard, narrated Email online: “Crew says that vegetables are hardly upgraded because there may not be a suitable meal for them ahead of time.”
