The latest season of FORTNITE is finally here, and fans are stunned by a major change in the game.

This means that one of Fortnite’s core gameplay mechanics is unavailable for now – although it’s expected to return soon.

Players are unable to build or repair basic structures such as walls, floors, stairs, and roofs.

At TwitterSome fans reacted with dismay to the change.

“I feel like building is what makes the game what it is,” one person moaned. “Without it, there’s really no reason to play it.”

Another tweeted: “You ruined the one thing this game did so well.”

Others suggested that the lack of buildings could make the game friendlier to inexperienced players.

One tweeter wrote: “Fortnite was fun at first because everyone was new to building and the skill gap wasn’t too high or too low.

“Then they started adding a lot of shit and the good guys got way too good at building and the casual players quit. I think that will make up for it though.”

Developer Epic Games regularly changes things up with the release of a new Fortnite season every few months.

The latest update is Chapter 3: Season 2 – which follows Season 1 which launched in December.

To make up for the lack of buildings, players now have an additional shield of defense called the “Overshield”.

A parkour-style movement form that combines faster sprinting and climbing has also been added to the game.

Airships and tanks were introduced, as well as a handful of new guns.

Players can also expect new character crossovers with popular TV and film franchises.

It’s unclear when building will return to the battle royale shooter.

An in-game message displayed to players reads: “The building has been obliterated. It’s up to the resistance to get it back.

The message continues: “Get on board with your squad and help the Seven uncover Imagined Orders’ nefarious plan.”

Ahead of the season’s announcement, Epic pledged to donate two weeks of its Fortnite earnings to support humanitarian efforts related to Ukraine.

This lasts from March 20th to April 3rd.
