Six people were remanded in custody on bail in connection with an alleged assault in Tullamore, Co. Offaly last week.
The four men and two women appeared before a session of Portlaoise District Court today.
All six faced a single charge last Wednesday, July 6, of assaulting Patrick McGinley at Arden View in Tullamore.
Det Garda Rory Heffernan testified on the arrest and charge of Martin Cawley, 27, of Harbor Street, Tullamore.
The defendant did not respond when charged. He was granted bail on condition that he obeyed a curfew, reported daily to Tullamore Garda train station, had no direct, indirect or social media or electronic contact with the victim, and provided a mobile phone number and be reachable should anytime.
Michael Cawley, 18, of Puttaghaun, Tullamore, was released on bail on the same terms. He didn’t answer when he was charged.
Det Garda Diarmuid Loughnane gave evidence leading to the arrest and charge of William Cawley, 29, of Chapel Street, Tullamore. The accused did not respond after being warned. He was released on bail on similar terms to his co-defendant.
Margaret Cawley, 26, of Harbor Street, Tullamore, was released on bail on similar terms. She didn’t answer when she was charged.
Lena McDonagh, 48, of Chancery Lane, Tullamore, did not respond to the charge. She was remanded in custody on bail under the same conditions
Gerard McDonagh, 28, with an address in Patrick Street, Tullamore, was remanded in similar conditions on bail but was only required to sign every Wednesday and Saturday. He did not answer after the accusation.
Judge Cronin granted legal aid to each of the defendants. They were remanded in custody on bail to appear again at a September 14 Tullamore District Court hearing on DPP orders.
