Four supermarket heroes can double their meal portions in just 30p

We all find it difficult to pay.
Official figures show the cost of living is rising at its fastest rate in 30 years, in part due to soaring food prices. But you can provide your family with less money with a few easy tweaks.
Here are my cupboard superheroes that you can pick up in just 30 minutes to make your meal a whole lot more. They are so good that they wear robes. . .
GO FOR RENT: Beats prolong meals even more, as they are high in protein and keep you full for longer. Soak dried lentils in water overnight, or choose a can of pre-cooked lentils if you’re short on time. Turn a two-person bolognese into a four-person meal simply by adding a tin of green lentils. Aldi has a 390g tin in 49p.
RICE ‘N’ EASY: Always have a large bag of rice in stock. Then you can earn loads of cheap meals. To make a simple biryani-style dish, add some garam masala seasoning and leftovers to your rice. For homemade egg fried rice, bring to a boil and drain the rice, then add a beaten raw egg and some peas in the pan. Heat and serve. To make an easy rice pudding, cook any white rice with milk, sugar, and vanilla. Sainsbury’s has 1kg of Hubbard’s Foodstore long grain white rice in 45 minutes.
BEANZ MEANZ SAVE: Think beyond beans on toast. Add a can of peas and a can of black beans with chili to double the serving. You can also try mixing in cannellini or butter beans and seasoning for a delicious dip. Get 400g peas in 30 minutes at Asda.
OAT-SO TASTY: In addition to porridge, you can also mix oats with bananas, eggs, and baking powder to make a pancake mix. Take your lasagne a step further by adding some oats to the red sauce during cooking to add volume. Desserts? Make crumbs easy by sprinkling oats and sugar over fruit, then baking.
Or learn snack recipes for a great round-the-clock snack. You can buy 1kg of oats for just 75p at Aldi.
