Fox News journalist injured in attack in Ukraine pays tribute to colleague Pierre Zakrzewski

Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall has paid tribute to his deceased colleagues who were killed in the process Ukraine in reporting on the war.

The British journalist said he felt “damn lucky” to have survived shelling from Russian forces as he shared news of his injuries.

Mr Hall, 39, managed to survive the attack but lost half a leg and foot while one of his eyes “stopped working”.

His team was reporting for US broadcaster Fox News in Horenka on the outskirts of Kyiv when his vehicle was hit by Russian fire on March 14.

His Irish cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and Ukrainian producer Oleksandra Kuvshynova were both killed in the incident.

“It’s been over three weeks since the attack in Ukraine and I wanted to start sharing everything. But first I have to pay tribute to my colleagues Pierre and Sasha who didn’t make it that day,” Mr Hall wrote on Twitter.

“Pierre and I have traveled the world together, the work was his joy and his joy was contagious. REST IN PEACE.”

Sharing a picture of himself bandaged and wearing an eye patch, he added: “To recap I’ve lost half a leg on one side and a foot on the other.

“A hand is put together, an eye isn’t working anymore and my hearing is pretty shattered…but overall I feel pretty darn lucky to be here – and it’s the people who brought me here that are amazing.”

Hall later shared a link to a Fox News video tribute to Ms. Kuvshynova.

A memorial service was held for Mr Zakrzewski on March 29 in Foxrock, Dublin, where the Irishman was remembered as a “fortune teller” who was full of energy and passion for bringing people’s stories to the world.

Several other journalists, including Brent Renaud, an American documentary filmmaker and another war veteran, have been killed in Ukraine since the war began more than a month ago. Fox News journalist injured in attack in Ukraine pays tribute to colleague Pierre Zakrzewski
