FPS Games 2022 – target these shooting games

THE FPS, once king of gaming and still making some of the biggest games of the year – here’s what to look forward to or pick up on in 2022.

From tactical shooters to zombie parkour games where there’s hardly a gun in sight, there’s a lot to explore this year.

Rainbow Six Extraction (Release Date: January 20, 2022)

Extraction is an odd combo that combines the tactical shooter skills of Rainbow Six: Siege with the wild imagination of alien zombies, but it’s worth playing.

Choose an operator and face off against an alien infection with some serious firepower and your friends, with co-op being the game’s main attraction.

Dying Light 2 (Release Date: February 4, 2022)

Zombies apparently come in pairs, as our second pick is Dying Light 2 and its city-spanning, zombie-slaying sequel to the original.

20 years after the first game and with the world in a much worse state thanks to the raging zombie virus – they will – you are one of the few able to move between bastions of humanity.

With the familiar traversal and parkour mechanics of the series, we also expect this game to receive support and updates for many years to come.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (Release Date: March 25, 2022)

Wonderlands is a little different from everything else here, replacing the sci-fi ridiculousness of Borderlands with the wacky tricks inside Tiny Tina’s head.

Dragons, swords, for us it’s still a first-person shooter.

Of course, as a spin-off of the Borderlands series, you can expect a healthy dose of comedy that doesn’t all land and plenty of high-jinks – as well as quality looting and shooter gameplay.

Neon White (Release Date: June 16, 2022)

Half FPS, half puzzle, half race, that’s too many halves. Neon White is a mixture of heavenly visuals, strange story and fast-paced action.

A movement game as much as a shooter, it’s all about finding the most efficient routes through levels and improving over time.

The first release from a team of indie developers calling themselves Angel Matrix, it’s another great joint release from Annapurna Interactive and has taken the PC gaming world by storm since launch.

Warhammer: 40,000 – Darktide (Release Date: September 13, 2022)

As the spiritual successor to the Vermintide series, Darktide brings the formula of Left 4 Dead to the dark future of the 41st Millennium and gives you a laser gun to deal with it.

Focused on four-player co-op and with FatShark’s years of experience creating this type of game, a lot is expected of Darktide.

Of course it’s not the first 40,000 FPS, and there have even been others in the recent past, but it has the greatest potential and it’s a universe always worth getting closer to.

Metal: Hellsinger (Release Date: September 15, 2022)

Mix your FPS goodness with metal music and you end up with Hellsinger, a game about killing demons to the beat and getting big points for it.

Many have tried to combine rhythm games with FPS and it often doesn’t work, but Hellsinger is different and is impressing the world with a demo this summer.

Assuming you like heavier music, it also has an amazing original soundtrack featuring some of the most famous artists in the business that gives it that unique feel.

Contempt (Release Date: October 21, 2022)

Scorn has been teased and developed for nearly a decade, but the Giger-inspired biomechanical shooter hasn’t aged badly.

As likely as it is to startle and upset you as it is to make for great shots, this is something to keep in mind.

Both the developer and publisher are new to the scene but with some obvious serious talent in both – everything about it is fascinating.

COD: Modern Warfare II (Release Date: October 28, 2022)

You can say it’s definitely a real year because a Call of Duty is coming out, this year a sequel to Infinity Ward in their series that reinterprets the Modern Warfare series that launched the franchise into the stratosphere.

Additionally, major updates to Warzone and a new mobile game are expected over the coming year.

Call of Duty is still the juggernaut it always was, and whether you’re looking for a bombastic single-player campaign or multiplayer blasts in the classic formula, it’ll serve you well.
