Frank Lampard believes the decision not to award Everton a penalty in their previous loss City of Manchester is the “most incompetent”.

The Toffees produced a stellar performance as they struggled to hold onto the champions, only to see Phil Foden score a opportunistic goal with eight minutes left.

Soon, though, the home team thought they should have been awarded a penalty – and a life-saver back into the game.

Man City midfielder Rodri handled the ball in his area, but it appeared to strike his arm, which was positioned far from his body.

Goodison Park explodes with appeals, led by Everton player, and referee Paul Tierney relied on VAR to make the call.

However, they were stuck with the decision on the pitch, to the anger of Lampard.

Frank Lampard is crazy about the decision

He told Sky Sports: “I’m calm, I’m not yelling or screaming, I want to know if it’s offside because it denied a penalty, but it wasn’t offside on a build. construct and isolate punishment.

“The referee said he was on the other side of it, I get that, so go to VAR who has a minute and a half, two to watch it, think Chris Kavanagh [VAR] not yet given a punishment, it hit him in the arm – midway – attacked him in an unnatural position, I have a three-year-old daughter at home who can tell you it’s a penalty kick.

“I’m not being funny Geoff, I don’t mean to take it lightly, we are in a position where we are fighting and Man City are fighting to win tournaments so that’s very important. .”

Tierney, whose views on the incident were not the best, was not advised to consult a supervisor on the sidelines, as usual.

The loss made Everton certainly relegated while Man City opened a six-point gap with the top.

But as a result, Lampard, newly appointed at Merseyside, is looking for answers.

He added: “When you put in a system that takes a minute or two to see the simplest, easy penalty decision, a lot of happy people quickly get there, that’s it.

“I don’t know what has to happen to reflect that clearly, obviously… it would be a mistake to not have time to think about it beyond two minutes for a handball. Tell me. why, tell me why.

“I can’t understand it [sending Tierney to the monitor] if communicating with VAR, the referee says ‘let me understand better’, even if he says ‘I’m not sure if that’ – that is – even after going to review, both of them We are together you get the last shout you are the referee.

“I don’t understand, at best it’s incompetent. If you don’t need someone to explain.”
