Free family event Summer Sunday takes place in Dublin next month

Dublin City Council is set to pedestrianize part of the city center next month to make way for a free family-friendly event.

Ollege Green and Dame Street are hosting a Summer Sunday event on August 7th from 12pm to 4pm.

On this day, the area is traffic free and offers a unique opportunity for all ages to enjoy street entertainment and free family fun.

The event has a colorful carnival theme with performers, stilt walkers and jugglers, as well as a ride on an antique carousel, circus workshops and face painting.

The street will have plenty of additional patio furniture to relax and enjoy a picnic. Dublin Mayor Caroline Conroy said it was an “unmissable” event.

“Summer Sunday will be an unmissable opportunity to see and appreciate College Green and Dame Street in a whole new light with no traffic,” she said.

“The carnival theme will be full of joy and color and is sure to bring lots of family fun and entertainment for everyone.”

The area from College Green to the junction of South Great Georges Street will be open to pedestrians and cyclists only between 7am and 7pm on Sunday 7th August.

Bike parking will be provided to minimize disruption, but cyclists must dismount to enter the event site.
