Comedy legends Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders will reunite for a good cause next month.
The iconic double action will appear in a very special episode of The Repair Shop, all in support of Comic Relief.
Dawn, 64, and Jennifer, 63, will reprise their characters ‘The Extras’ for the BBC charity special.
The pair, best known as French & Saunders, will portray two fame-hungry women trying to get a free fix in the store.
Host Jay Blades – who had to deal with Dawn and Jennifer’s characters in the fake sketch – promised it would be a ‘reward’ for fans of all involved.
The award-winning comedians – who first started working together in the 1980s – also spoke of their excitement before the clip aired.
“I don’t think we ever said no to Comic Relief because it was so important, and because it was from our community and we were there from the beginning,” Dawn explains.
Comic Relief was co-founded by Dawn’s ex-husband Lenny Henry in 1985.
Speaking ahead of her latest donation to charity, the mother-of-one added: “I know that the money has been properly spent and I know that there are ongoing projects that need us keep going and I would never want to let anyone down, so I think the more we can do to promote and support, the better!”
Comedian friend Jennifer is equally excited to be collaborating with her old friend again.
The much-loved comedy duo met while college students at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 1978 – they eventually went on to star in the award-winning sketch show by BBC French and Saunders.
“When I watch The Repair Shop, I think all I can see is these characters going into The Repair Shop, or me and Dawn, pretending to fix something or imitating characters.” Jennifer explained while chatting about their upcoming Comic Relief cameo.
“You know, I just thought, this is the show for us.”
“Then Comic Relief said we had The Repair Shop and it was like the perfect thing, it was so perfect!”
Repair Shop host Jay promises viewers that the two comedians have something special in store for them.
“I can’t believe the chaos those two cause,” he teased.
“We’re always amazed with what we see in the warehouse, but trust me, we haven’t seen anything like this before – you have to see how funny it is.”
* Red Nose Day 2022 Comic Relief TV special will air at 19:00, Friday, March 18.
