French chef Raymond Blanc has begged Brits to give up white slices of bread – and start baking luxurious European loaves instead.

The owner of the once-Michelin-starred restaurant said he was faced with a dish of white bread he called foul, tasteless and “scary” bread.

Raymond, 72 years old, even the suggested classic bacon butter would be twice as delicious if we made them with trendy art sourdough bread.

“Everybody should start making their own sourdough or focaccia – because white bread is a stain on British culinary heritage,” he said.

“It is made in factories and the vitamins are synthetically fortified. And taste? No taste!

“It’s horrifying because you see white bread in a bag that’s been two weeks without mold. You wonder what the hell is in there? It was simply not good food.”

His posh Le Manoir aux Qaut’Saisons restaurant in Great Milton, Oxon, already has two Michelin stars.

The culinary expert has also starred in numerous cooking shows – including Simply Raymond Blanc which will return to ITV on January 29.

It shows him discovering some of the UK’s finest cuisine and greatest chefs.

During his travels, he’s tasted bacon sandwiches with brown sauce – and white bread.

Raymond added: “It’s divine, but I said ‘If that bacon was made with sourdough, it would be twice as good’.”
