French President Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen face off in the second round of French presidential elections on Sunday.
Throughout the campaign, Macron’s lead over Le Pen in polls of second-round voting intention was the narrowest it had been in the 2017 race. At the start of the final week of the election, the incumbent’s numbers have picked up again, POLITICO’s poll shows.
The result of the election will not only shape the future of France, but also that of the EU. While Macron has defended his pro-European agenda, Marine Le Pen’s program – including drastic changes to the internal market – is largely incompatible with the bloc’s current rules.
