French star Paul Pogba claims his brother is part of a blackmail gang after a blackmail video was released

France world champion Paul Pogba has claimed he is the target of a blackmail attempt by an “organized gang” after his brother promised “explosive” revelations about the Juventus star on social media.

In a video posted to social media, Mathias Pogba said he will reveal “very important things” about his brother and others close to him.

Mathias Pogba said: “I believe that the French, Italian and English public, my brother’s fans and even more – the French national team, the Juventus team, my brother’s team-mates and his sponsors – deserve to know certain things, to make an informed decision as to whether he deserves the admiration, respect and love of the public.”

The France international’s lawyers, mother and agent have released a statement on the allegations, saying that ‘sadly, the recent statements made by Mathias Pogba on social media come as no surprise’.

They claimed his brother’s outburst came after “threats and blackmail attempts by an organized gang against Paul Pogba”.

“The relevant authorities in Italy and France were informed a month ago and there will be no further comments regarding the ongoing investigation,” they continued.

Police investigations into the alleged extortion attempts have been ongoing in France since early August, according to news website Franceinfo. It was reported that ex-Manchester United star Pogba appeared to tell authorities that an organized gang allegedly involving some of his childhood friends had demanded €13million from him and intimidated him.

He was harassed by them at the Juventus training center in Turin and told police he recognized one of the group as his brother Mathias.

On March 25 and 28, while the then Manchester United midfielder was visiting family in Paris, he was reportedly dragged into a flat by friends and accused of not helping them financially since turning professional. Two armed men were reportedly among the group.

Pogba reportedly told police the blackmailers would try to discredit him in the media, claiming he asked a marabout, a Muslim religious leader, to cast a spell on his international team-mate Kylian Mbappe – something Pogba denies.
