From a Tesla to an electric scooter and bike… seven EVs battle the track at Brands Hatch

The world would stop spinning without the battery.

We rely on them for phones, TV remotes, and toys for kids. . . you know. . . adult stuff.

Just for a giggle, I and some friends set a record seven laps around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit with this unlikely electronic team.

Very quickly, if we wanted to go anywhere, it would have a battery drain.

That’s why on these pages you’ll find pretty much everything with wheels in electric versions, from skateboards and bicycles to a Tesla and a £1 million vintage wheelchair.

Just for giggles, I joined some friends in setting a record seven laps around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit with this unlikely electronic team.

I’m pretty confident those laps will stand for a while – because no one will bother trying to beat them.

What did I drive?

Tesla Model 3 of course. Because it’s the fastest.

Except nobody told me Tesla had set the speed limit at 87mph and didn’t have time to ring to turn it off.

I still won, though.

If you like technology and you like speed, you’ll want the Model 3. Britain’s best-selling EV over a country mile. Tesla couldn’t get them here fast enough.

The second fastest Citroen e-Dispatch van in our one-round penalty shootout, driven by Eurosport commentator Andrew Coley.

What Car’s Neil Winn? Ranked third in Silence S01 electric motorcycle.

Now that’s a great thing. It will run 62mph and 80 odd miles on a single charge. Best of all, the battery pack pops out and you can plug it into a three-pin socket for charging. It costs £5k.

You can guess the rest of the finishing order: Lunaz Phantom V, electric skateboard, Gocycle e-bike (created by a former McLaren engineer), e-scooter.

“It’s the most serene and captivating Brands spin ever,” said James Warren of Lunaz.

Autocar’s Matt Prior, who averaged 14 mph on the e-scooter, said: “I think it’s the slowest lap of all time.”

The challenge was filmed by the e-mobile website move electronic.com.

Editor James Attwood said: “What it shows is the ability, speed and fun of the latest generation of electric vehicles – and there really is something for everyone.”

By the way, if Gocycle is still looking for its e-bike, it’s definitely not on Tesla’s radar.
