From Sheridan Smith to Patsy Kensit – A-listers to star in Holby City on final airing

The city of Holby has wowed the nation with its dramatic medical stories for 23 years.

The medical soap has captivated viewers with its brave stories of tragedy, love, and loss for more than two decades.

But now we’re about to say goodbye to one of Britain’s most beloved shows as it enters its final day of broadcast on the BBC.

Holby City’s final showdown will be pulled tonight as fans mourn that Tuesday night’s game will never be the same again.

Dubbed Operation Two, Holby City commenced operations on January 12, 1999, and has run 23 series.

It was launched as a spin-off of the hugely successful BBC show Casualty. It has been nominated for more than 100 awards – among its 10 is the Bafta Prize in 2008.

Praised for dealing with real-life problems, the film’s cast was taught how to give realistic injections, tracking blood pressure and check pulse, and also allowed to enter hospital to understand the actual environment.

The final episodes were filmed in December and will hit theaters today.

The show has helped launch the careers of some of the biggest names in film and cinema, including Letitia Wright, Olivia Coleman, Romesh Ranganathan and Nicholas Hoult.

Despite a petition by nearly 50,000 names and two million weekly recordings, the BBC still questions the aging of the much-loved soap.

Here, we take a look at some of the stars who had humble beginnings in the Holby City lobbies and who shot up after finding fame.
