Fury, while the world’s laziest municipal employees pull an incredibly loose trick while laying a new road surface

RESIDENTS were outraged by the botched work of community workers revitalizing their streets.

Locals on McBryde Street in Melbourne, Australia, were told just days in advance of their streets being renewed – and not all got the memo.

When the contractors arrived to lay the new pavement, all the cars hadn’t been pulled off the road.

Instead of coming back another day or asking the car owners to move their vehicles, they decided to lay the new road around the parked cars.

Patt Gibbs lives on McBryde Street and told 9News the job looks “stupid”.

Neighbor Monica Hodgkinson agreed: “The road is probably in worse condition than when we started.

“It’s disappointing because now the street is a mess.”

The council has issued an apology for what many call “rotten work”.

A spokesman for Merri-Bek City Council said: “We took the opportunity to complete this work faster than resources were available, resulting in less awareness of the residents.

“We apologize to local residents for the inconvenience.”

Dean Hurlston of Ratepayers, an organization that works to improve local councils, said residents in Victoria were fed up with local councils.

“What we keep seeing from councils is money wasted and poor delivery. You really need to pull yourself together and start delivering quality to the community,” he said.

A Merri-Bek City Council spokesman said workers would return to complete the work in the summer, but gave no official date.

In 2019, Melbourne City Council plastered another parked car on Blackburn Road in central Melbourne.

In 2018, UK residents in Northampton were horrified when community workers painted new yellow lines across piles of rubbish.

The variety of debris included cigarette packs, a Red Bull can and even soiled wet wipes.

Niall Skinner said: “It’s a shame to watch. There was no communication.

“Couldn’t the workers call the local council and say, ‘Hey, we’re painting the streets down here today, can you come and clean them first?'”
