Breda Pagett from Moycullen in Galway was honored with the Carer of the Year award.
He received the award at the Right at Home Carers special ceremony held at the Westin Hotel in Dublin on Friday.
The organization, which provides home care and support for seniors and adults, uses Right at Home’s 2022 Carer of the Year Awards to celebrate and recognize the outstanding work and dedication of caregivers.
They emphasize that these caregivers are an important part of their communities, enabling people to continue living independent and happy lives from the comfort of their own homes.
Breda was one of six regional finalists in the running for the national Right at Home Carer of the Year award.
The nominations were submitted by clients, client families, their peers, managers and supervisors who have seen firsthand the contribution that caregivers make to the lives of those they serve.
Commenting on her Nurse of the Year award, Breda Padgett said, “I am delighted to receive this award and to be crowned Right at Home’s Nurse of the Year.
“I started my career as a nurse and four years ago when I decided to switch to nursing after returning to Ireland after spending time abroad, I quickly realized that my passion lay in this specific field of work.
“Being a caretaker is so much more than a job. We build strong friendships with our clients, all of whom face different challenges and have trusted us to take care of them no matter how much support they need.
“To help my clients continue to lead happy and independent lives in the comfort of their own homes is a real privilege. I would like to say a big thank you to Natalie Crowe, Managing Director of Right at Home Galway, and my colleagues for their continued support and passion for what they do.”
The judges commended Breda’s passion, kindness and professionalism in her role, who demonstrated great attention to detail and genuinely appreciated her duty of care to the vulnerable community she serves.
Speaking at the event, David McKone, Chief Executive of Right at Home Ireland said: “Carers play an important role in society and sometimes their work can go unnoticed which is why in 2020 we launched our Carer of the Year Awards to celebrate this to recognize outstanding work and determination by Right at Home Carers.
“I see and hear stories daily from our caregivers who go above and beyond in their roles to ensure their clients’ needs are met and who perform their roles in alignment with Right at Home values of respect, dignity and trust, exercise
“Today I want to congratulate all the nominees and winners who exemplify these qualities and we are very proud of what they have achieved.”
A number of other awards were also announced on the day in recognition of the wider care team, including Mihaela Grigore Agbo from Galway, who took home an award recognizing her commitment to doing everything for her clients and colleagues.
