Game Of Thrones hailed as ‘the biggest franchise out there’ at its inaugural convention

Fantasy fans hailed Game Of Thrones as “the greatest franchise out there” when they arrived on the first day of the inaugural convention celebrating the show.

Others said they “didn’t hesitate” to buy tickets to the conference after it was announced earlier this year.

The event is the first Game Of Thrones convention officially licensed by HBO and is taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from December 9-11.

Hundreds of fans, some dressed in cosplay, lined up outside the venue more than an hour before opening for the first table on Friday.

This weekend there will be memorabilia auctions, costume contests and workshops featuring casts from both Game Of Thrones and its recent spin-off, House Of The Dragon.

Franchise stars Kit Harington and Paddy Considine are among the famous faces expected to attend the event.

As well as flags from famous houses, the exhibition center displays a large model in the center of the skull of Balerion the Black Dread.

Ahead of the first panels, fans said they hoped the conference would be “the first of many”.

Jonathan Rodriguez, 25, told PA news agency that he fell in love with the brand as soon as he read it.

“It is absolutely wonderful. Storytelling, it can’t be beat. It’s the best show there, you have to come and support 1000%,” he said.

“Today is the first, hopefully the first of many…it will be amazing.

He continued, “Until now, I don’t think I’ve ever been so passionate about a show that I watched every little detail over and over again.

“The moment I started watching Game Of Thrones, I was hooked on the books, the games, the YouTube videos – everything human can be.

“I watched and read everything I could because the lore of this story was amazing. Better than Marvel, better than DC, better than The Lord of the Rings – I said it and I mean it.

“It’s the biggest franchise out there.”

Mr Rodriguez, dressed as Harington’s Jon Snow, attended the conference with his girlfriend Jenna Weir, 23, and two of their friends.

For others, the event is a family affair.

Caity Cahalin, 24, attending the conference with her father, John Cahalin, 56, said she couldn’t believe it was finally happening.

“It’s really been planned, we’re delighted. We can’t believe this is actually happening,” she told PA.

“I bought the tickets as soon as I saw them on sale, without hesitation and was like ‘Daddy let’s go’.”

She continued: “For me, escapism is such an important part of how the universe was created and how it is different from any other medieval or fantasy plot – the moral aspect. its gray.

Mr Cahalin added: “For me, it’s just a father and daughter thing, this is how we bonded together.”

“We are very excited, we have been looking forward to it for a long time. It is here.”

Brennan Kelly said he’s glad HBO “finally got to work” by hosting the conference.

“I’m excited because this is the first officially licensed version – you’ve had other clones but this is the official version so it’s great,” he told PA.

“I’m glad HBO is finally getting in – because the conference scene is huge and when they get it under control, it’s going to be ridiculous, it’s going to be great.”

The first part of the conference featured an interview with House Of The Dragon star Tom Glynn Carney, who plays King Aegon Targaryen II in the series.

The actor shyly admitted that before taking on the important role in the spin-off, he had not watched the popular HBO show.

Other panels over the weekend are expected to feature appearances by Jake Gleeson, who plays villain Joffrey Baratheon, Alfie Allen, who plays Theon Greyjoy, and Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor.

Nairn, who in addition to his acting career is also a famous DJ, will also host a dance party for fans on Saturday night.
