Game of Thrones TV network clarifies CEO’s rude remarks about Emilia Clarke at House of the Dragon event

A television network has apologized after its CEO made derogatory remarks about Emilia Clarke.

On Wednesday (August 17), the boss of Foxtel, the company that broadcasts Game of Thrones in Australia, described actor Daenerys as “short and old” during the premiere event for the new spin-off series.

During a speech ahead of the premiere of the House of the Dragon prequel in Sydney, Patrick Delany is said to have talked about his first experience watching Game of Thrones: “I thought, ‘What show is this? with a short, short girl walking into the fire? ‘”

It is believed there was a “cold” reaction from the crowd, with one spectator telling the outlet “there was a bit of a gasp”, and another adding: “It felt like he was. was expecting us to laugh along but everyone in the room was clearly shocked by it.”

A spokesperson for Foxtel Group, who issued a statement following the report explained Delany’s comments.

“The aim was to convey that for him, Games of Thrones was something very different to television in 2011 and that Emilia Clarke has gone from relatively unknown to one of the most recognized actors and actresses in the world. most loved in television and cinema,” the statement read.

“On behalf of Mr. Delany, Foxtel Corporation apologizes if his remarks were misunderstood and caused any offense.”

Clarke has yet to comment on the reports.

House of the Dragon is set hundreds of years before the events of Thrones, and continues the story of the Targaryen Civil War.
