Gardaí chase dangerous driver after one Garda was injured and another forced to take cover in Co Donegal.
The officer was injured when a squad car was rammed at Higginstown Cross, Ballyshannon, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The car used in the ramming, a red Skoda Fabia with partial registration number 05 DL, left the scene of the accident.
The extent of Lake Garda’s injuries was not disclosed.
A Garda spokesman said: “A patrol car was rammed and a Garda member was injured.
“During the course of the incident, another Garda member had to seek cover as the car headed towards them. This member was not injured.”
Gardaí appeals to all witnesses to this collision to come forward.
The spokesman added: “Road users with camera footage (including dash cam) who were in the vicinity at the time of the collision are asked to make this available to the Gardaí investigation.
“Gardaí is particularly interested in sightings of this vehicle in the Ballyshannon, Donegal Town and Mountcharles areas.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on (074) 974 0190, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
Garda Representative Association President Brendan O’Connor said this incident shows again how Gardai are regularly exposed to danger.
“This incident highlights once again the dangers our members face with an alarming regularity,” he said.
“The public and our elected officials have been shocked and outraged when footage of such incidents has been shared on social media recently, yet many of these life-threatening incidents go unnoticed and unreported.
“The Ballyshannon incident, like many other incidents, goes unrecorded, putting investigators at a disadvantage. This is due to a lack of investment in equipment.”
