Gardai have launched an investigation after the bodies of a 35-year-old woman and her 7-month-old son were found at a property in West Dublin this afternoon.
Ambulance services and Gardai arrived at the scene of the tragedy around 3 p.m. today.
The mother and her young son were found dead at the Beechfield Estate home, Clonee, Dublin 15.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the little boy may have been the victim of foul play. Toxicologists will now determine the mother’s cause of death.
At this early stage, Gardai are no longer looking for anyone in connection with the tragedy – and it is believed no one else was in the house at the time of the fatal incident.
Sources said a note found at the scene will be a focus of the investigation.
The mother and her young son are considered Irish nationals.
Tonight their bodies remain at the crime scene, which is being held for forensic and technical investigations.
The local coroner and state pathologist’s office have been notified.
A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to liaise with the family.
The results of an autopsy and toxicological reports will determine the further course of the Lake Garda investigations into both deaths.
A Garda spokesman said: “Shortly after 3pm today, Gardaí and emergency services visited a house in the Beechfield area of Dublin 15. An adult woman (30 years old) and a young boy were discovered deceased in the house. Both were pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.”
