Gardaí arrest teenagers in Carrigaline after a man, 20, left in critical condition after a serious attack in Cork

Gardaí have arrested a teenager in connection with an attack in Cork that critically injured a 29-year-old man.

The 19-year-old was arrested shortly after the victim was discovered at the Glenwood Estate in Carrigaline with life-threatening head and neck injuries.

The man is believed to have been hit in the face or neck with a bottle.

Gardaí believe the attack took place from a local property around 5.45pm on Wednesday.

The injured man had stumbled onto the roadway, where he was spotted by Gardaí and paramedics.

It is believed that he had suffered significant blood loss.

He received emergency medical care at the scene before being rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) by ambulance.

The man underwent emergency surgery last night and is in critical but stable condition.

It is believed to be from the Carrigaline area.

A short time later, the 19-year-old man was arrested in the Carrigaline area.

He is currently being held under the Criminal Justice Act at Togher Garda Station.

He can be detained for a period of up to 24 hours.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to get in touch.

Investigators believe several people were present when the attack took place.

A Garda spokesman urged people to come forward to help their investigation into the serious attack.
“Anyone who was in the vicinity of Glenwood Estate, Carrigaline between 5:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday (December 28) including, but not limited to, any road user who may have camera footage (including dashcam) of the incident, is asked to liaise with the Gardaí investigation,” a statement said.
“Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 494 7120, Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

Gardaí will also conduct door-to-door investigations into the Glenwood Estate, as well as review CCTV surveillance camera footage of local business premises to determine the movement of specific individuals both to and from the property.
