Gardaí arrest woman, 30, in connection with fatal shooting of Ballyfermot’s father of three, Michael Tormey

Gardaí arrested a woman in her early 30s in connection with the fatal shooting of father-of-three Michael Tormey in Ballyfermot in early January.

r Tormey, 49, was shot dead at 4.35am on 9 January in the front garden of his Thomond Road home while his wife and one of his children were inside.

Gardaí have confirmed that a woman in her early 30s was arrested today.

A man was previously charged with the murder of Mr Tormey.

The salesman and the bouncer sustained gunshot wounds to the back and chest.

Christopher Devine, 40, of Convent Lawns, Ballyfermot, was charged with murder and remanded in custody after appearing in District Court on 19 January and was subsequently released on bail by the High Courts.

The woman arrested today is currently being held at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 30 of the Crimes Against the State Act 1939.

Mr Tormey’s wife and six-year-old daughter were asleep in the house at the time of his killing.

Speaking to after news of his murder, local councilor and friend Hazel de Nortúin said: “He was a very decent man, a family-oriented man and he was a great friend to those who knew him.

“Since I’ve known him, I’ve never heard a bad word about him. This is a tragedy.

“He only got married in 2019 and my condolences go out to his wife and children. The community is completely shocked.”

Mr Tormey had been at a party on Saturday night and into Sunday morning and got home to his house in Thomond Road around 3.30am.

In the meantime, Gardaí continue to appeal to anyone with information about the incident – particularly anyone who may be at Thomond Road, Landen Road, Kylemore Road or generally Decies between 3:30am and 5:30am in the morning. area from Sunday 9th January – to contact them.
