GARDAI has identified a new “person of interest” in their investigation into the murder of Ashling Murphy.
Police are waiting to speak to a man involved in the killing of a prominent teacher in Co Offaly on Wednesday afternoon, it is understood.
The talented musician, 23, was attacked and killed while jogging along the Grand Canal in Tullamore around 4pm on Wednesday.
It happened last night that a 40-year-old man was released from custody and excluded as a suspect in case.
Late on Thursday, Mr. gardai confirmed the man they questioned had been released.
They kept asking for information about a Falcon Storm mountain bike and for anyone with information about the deadly attack to move on.
A spokesman said last night: “The man arrested and detained by An Garda Siochana to investigate this fatal assault has now been released. This man has been removed from Garda’s investigations and is no longer a suspect.
“A Garda Siochana continues to investigate this deadly attack that occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, along the banks of the canal in Cappincur, Tullamore, Co Offaly.

“A Garda Siochana continues to complain about any information about a Falcon Storm mountain bike with straight handlebars and distinctive yellow/blue front fork.
“Gardai continues to urge anyone with any information about this deadly attack to come forward with that information.”

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, who arrived in Tullamore on Thursday, told investigating officers that all of An Garda Siochana’s resources were available to them.
He said: “I want to reassure people that this is a safe society, despite the terrible events of yesterday and despite the fear and anxiety, real fear and anxiety have. , this is a safe society, these events are relatively rare.
“I think that’s seen in our overall response to this as a society.”
The gifted elementary school teacher and musician Ashling was remembered as a “special girl” by her parents.
Heartbroken Father Raymond told the Irish Independent: “She was just a special girl. She is the youngest child, a little angel.
“She is a wonderful girl in every sense of the word.
“She is a great employee, with great motivation. A great musician. She has crammed too much into her short life.
“She has played with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí throughout Ireland and throughout the UK on tours. She has been in their youth choir and senior orchestra.
“She played her best and was greatly respected by her peers.”
A giant number of times will be held in the coming days across the country in memory of Ashling Murphy.
