As close friends last night paid tribute to their doting father, Gardai was probing whether he was cruelly killed after a previous party.

A local representative said “fear has gripped the local community” after the cold-blooded murder and called on the Attorney General to Helen McEntee and Garda’s flagship brass to tackle the “violent crime” raging in the region.

Loving father of two children Michael was shot multiple times in the front garden, just a few yards from the front door.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services and his remains were taken to the city morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted yesterday by State pathologist Margot Bolster.

His distraught wife Amy – whom he recently married in 2019 – and two young daughters were comforted by relatives last night.

The Irish Sun could reveal Mr Tormey was not involved in crime or had any links to organized crime gangs.

Garda is probing whether the victim may have engaged in a scuffle with several people at a party earlier that evening at another location.

It is understood he may have asked individuals to leave the party, who then returned and targeted him, according to locals.

Investigators will also speak to his shocked family and friends to determine if he has suffered any form of intimidation in recent months.

A source said: ‘Gardai has no dealings with this man and he is unknown to them.

“He has no criminal record and is just an ordinary family man who was brutally murdered in his own home.”

‘YOU LOOK FOR THE YEAR’

People Before Profit Councilor Hazel de Nortuin talked about how well-loved Michael is in the local karaoke community and performed several songs at her wedding just last year.

She told the Irish Sun: “Mike and my husband have been great friends for many years and they will spend a lot of time socializing during the karaoke scene.

“He is a lovely man and a very loyal friend. He always makes sure my husband gets in the door well after a night out.

“I got married in September. So they’re all doing karaoke and singing and stuff like that.

“I would say you will see a lot of singers coming to his funeral to remember him to try and give him the best they can that they can give him.

“Obviously it’s going to depend on what the family wants, but they’ll definitely make sure they’re there to contribute and make sure it’s going to be a night where he’ll fall in love with himself.”

‘SEVERE PRESENTATION’

The stunned local representative continued: “I was very nervous when I woke up to the news.
“It is a serious tragedy and it is horrible to think that this could have happened on his doorstep.

“My condolences to his wife and children. He is a great family man and a great friend to everyone.

“He’s very popular in the area and this is just an unbelievable tragedy that simply didn’t need to happen.

“There was a serious degree of shock and obviously some anger as well. This is a completely unprecedented attack.

“This has nothing to do with criminal activity or gang crime or anything like that – on his behalf anyway.

“So it just created havoc in the community. Everyone who knows him is really upset at the moment and just can’t get over the fact that this has happened. “

FRIENDS HAVE BEEN FRIENDS

In recent months, Mr. Tormey has been working in sales in the capital.

The murder victim’s best friend, Darren McGavin, last night paid tribute to the young Ballyfermot.

Darren told the Irish Sun: “I’ve known Mick for about 25 years and I can’t believe this is happening.

“We used to make doors together and he is a gentleman who lives only for his family.

“He has nothing to do with anything and is just a quiet guy who keeps to himself.

‘BASIC EARNINGS PER SHARE’

“Everybody at Ballyfermot is shocked that this has happened to Mick and it must have been a case of mistaken identity.

“I just met him before Christmas and we were looking forward to a few drinks and this was horrible.”

Darren added: “He’s never been the type of man to go out drinking at 4am and think that someone is going to come to his house and do this is horrible.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Ballyfermot will be with his family.”

Tributes are also paid to the father who was killed on social media.

One said: “Unbelievable – thinking of Amy and the girls.”

Another said: “I am devastated. I can not believe it “.

While another also said: “Michael, you will be very sad. You are a lovely man. My prayers are with your family. ”

COMMUNITY ‘ATTACK’

Sinn Fein councilor Daithi Doolan described the country’s latest shooting as “an attack on the community”.

Speaking yesterday, he said: “Incidents like this affect everyone in the community and we have seen too much violence on the streets of Ballyfermot lately.

“I would urge anyone with information on this incident to come see Gardai.

“It is essential that those involved are held accountable and face justice for their actions.”

A local representative said: “Tackling gun crime must now be a priority for this Government.

LOOK FOR INFORMATION

“Fear has gripped the local community. Neighbors are shocked and horrified that this terrible crime could have happened on their doorstep.

“Both Attorney General Helen McEntee and Commissioner Garda Drew Harris, must act immediately and ensure additional resources are provided to this community.”

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí is appealing to anyone with information or a passerby who may have camera footage (including dash cams).

Gardai can be reached at Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200, Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station. ”

Another theory being tested by gardai is that Michael may have been targeted in a case of mistaken identity.
