Gardaí have seized cannabis worth an estimated €6.9million and arrested two men in Co Kilkenny.

The two men, aged between 30 and 40, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and will be jailed at Kilkenny railway station tonight under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1996.

Gardaí, who are affiliated with the Garda National Drugs and Organized Crime Bureau, with the assistance of the Revenue Commissioners Custom Service and Eastern Region officers, searched a business premises in Ballyhale, Co. Kilkenny on Monday and found cannabis with an estimated street value of over 6.9 € secured m.

A Garda spokesman said: “The arrests followed a Garda intelligence operation targeting transnational drug trafficking networks conducted as part of Operation TARA, which focuses on disrupting, dismantling and prosecuting drug trafficking networks.”
