The Dobbies Garden Center in Brighton prepares for a busy day in the festive calendar.
The first Saturday in December (Saturday the 3rd this year) is the most popular day to buy real Christmas trees and this year will be no exception as the demand for real trees continues to grow. Expecting more customers than usual, the Dobbies Garden Center on Warren Road is offering a range of freshly cut and potted trees.
Under the motto ‘Bring your Christmas tree home’, the center is promoting its Nordmann firs to owners of electric and hybrid vehicles, who can secure a 10% discount on trees bought in-store.
Marcus Eyles, Dobbies Horticultural Director and resident Christmas tree expert, shares his advice for the best real Christmas tree experience. For choosing your tree, Marcus said prospective buyers: “Come equipped with the height, depth and width measurements of the area you envision your tree in the home. Make sure there’s an outlet nearby for your Christmas lights – corners are ideal – as they protect your tree from knocks and bumps.”
He said: “For most cars, the tree will be too long to fit in the trunk. I’d recommend attaching it to your roof rack if you have one, and reclining the passenger seat if you don’t.
“First insert the tree top into the car and place the tree stump in the footwell. Secure him with the seat belt so you can drive home safely.”
Dobbies’ customers in Brighton can be assured that their Christmas trees have not been felled from wild forests, but instead come from responsibly managed plantations across Scotland.
