Gareth Southgate may only have two weeks to convince Anthony Elanga to represent England at international level.
At 19 years and 302 days, he became United’s youngest ever Champions League knockout goal scorer on Wednesday after finding the net against Atletico Madrid.
Elanga was born in Malmo and has 16 caps for the Swedish youth team. His record at U21 level is impressive, scoring seven goals in eight appearances.
The Swedes will face the Czech Republic in their World Cup playoffs on March 24, with coach Janne Andersson expected to announce his team over a period of about two weeks.

Elanga will not be eligible to play for England if he does play in that match, as a player can make up to three appearances and remain loyal.
However, that rule only goes into effect if the player making those matches is under the age of 21 and not in the “final stages” of a tournament.
While a debut against the Czechs will not rule out England, Elanga will not change her international allegiance after that.
Based on SunSouthgate and his behind-the-scenes staff watched the talent’s progress. Andersson is also said to be keeping a close eye on him.
Elanga qualified to play for England after living in the country for seven years, moving to Manchester at the age of 12 and signing for United shortly after.
He is also eligible to play for Cameroon, as his father Joseph was part of their squad for the 1998 World Cup. The left-back made 17 appearances for his country.
Elanga is one of United’s best young players, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award for the 2019-20 season. Previous winners include Paul Scholes and Marcus Rashford.
“He has an X-factor,” the former United manager once said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“Some attributes, it’s not like a gift, but he has acceleration, speed, speed, that’s bestowed on wingers and he has qualities that I like.
“He’s a winger who scores goals, he’s confident, he likes to beat men, right-footed, left-footed, he has a great attitude.”
Club legend Rio Ferdinand recently added: “He [Elanga] hungry, he’s humble as a young player joining the team and he’s just won a little bit.
“I like the fact that he has an impact on games. Three away goals is an important thing when it comes to scoring away and he came out and contributed.
“I think that’s all you want as a young player to come out and not be anonymous, to have an impact and he’s done it.
“I think he’s a really good example to all the young players that are going through – you save your time, you go on the pitch and you have to make a mark when you get in there. He’s doing very well. .”
