Garth Brooks has praised a country music star’s rendition of one of his most famous songs.
Isa McHugh, who debuted country singer on Electric Picnic earlier this year, shared a clip online of the country music legend reacting to her cover of The River.
The clip shows the Friends in Low Places singer listening to McHugh’s version of the hit. He said, “Oh my god, what a beautiful singer.”
“What a beautiful, beautiful person.”
In the video, Glasgow native McHugh, who lives in Fermanagh, sings while playing guitar with her son Milo in the background.
The video was shown to Brooks as he reflected on the highlights of his five nights at Croke Park.
McHugh has previously spoken about how Brooks influenced her love of country music. She was born in Scotland to an Irish mother from Falcarragh in Co Donegal while her father is from Tyrone.
“I’m still very shocked and absolutely honored that you were chosen to share out of the thousands of videos that I’m sure you chose mine,” she told Independent.ie.
“It’s literally overwhelming. And then to get such an incredible reaction from him is overwhelming.
“When I think about it I’ve been such a huge fan of Garth and his music since I was about eight or nine and I was so excited to see him live a few weeks ago and now that… it is just absolutely crazy! My phone hasn’t stopped since yesterday morning.”
McHugh tweeted the clip and said it made her day. She said: “Woke up this morning to see my little man and I was at @garthbrooks live from Studio G last night.”
“What a Tuesday!!!”
