Gary Kirsten ’emerges as front runner’ and becomes England Test coach after Rob Key approach

Gary Kirsten supposed to be the front runner England ‘s new head coach at Test cricket after being approached by the chief executive of Men’s Cricket Rob Key.

England have officially started the recruitment process to find Chris Silverwood’s successor ECB ad online for separate red and white ball head trainers. and Kirsten was sounded out by Key about the red ball job.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Kirsten has told Key that he is “available and interested” for the role, with discussions taking “a new level” on Monday. The report says he is in “pole position” to get the job despite losing his current role as batting coach IPL Franchise Gujarat Titans might complicate things.

Although Kirsten is willing to quit the job to take the job in England, the current IPL season won’t end until next month. The final is set to take place on May 29, just four days before England’s first test of the summer against New Zealand at Lord’s.

And with Gujarat currently second in the table, they are likely to reach the knockout stages and the report says Kirsten “might insist on seeing the rest of the competition”.

The 54-year-old has previously coached both India and South Africa and was considered for the England job in both 2015 and 2019 but lost to Trevor Bayliss and then Silverwood. However, he publicly threw his hat in the ring a third time during the Ashes and recounted it iNews : “Listen, it [the England job] is always a consideration because it is a great honor.

“I’ve walked that journey twice now and I’ve always made it clear that I would never commit to playing all formats with due consideration.

“Listen, the England ODI team is set up, you are the best ODI team in the world at the moment. It’s a well thought out project, you have consistency with the chosen players.

“Your test site has been struggling for a while, but it would be a really nice project to get it working. It [England] is an interesting one. I think it’s a great project for someone to come in and take on this test site. There’s a lot of preparation that needs to be done to build this testing team.”
