Although a difficult first half, Liverpool punish Arsenal with two lightning strikes from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino to move within a point City of Manchester at the top of Premier League. In doing so, Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the top four were dented by Klopp’s side.
A place in the top 4 is still in the hands of Mikel Arteta’s team but the pressure is great, even though they are only at fault after a bad performance in the second half against the Reds. One of the bright lights, however, was Martinelli, and Lineker agreed with Klopp’s views on the Brazilian.
During Arsenal’s loss to Liverpool, Lineker tweeted: “Martinelli will be a world class player.” Arsenal may have failed to open the scoring against Liverpool, but Martinelli shone and stole the performance from Klopp’s own South American star, Luis Diaz.
At times, Martinelli’s quick footwork is too much for Liverpool, but Klopp knows all too well how talented he is after his earlier remarks about the Brazilian. Klopp first faced Martinelli in a match in October 2019, and he described him as the “talent of the century”.
Klopp then went on to say a few days later, that the winger was “really unbelievable”, and the Liverpool boss later applauded Edu for finding him in Brazil. But he didn’t finish there, as Klopp spoke again of Martinelli during Liverpool’s recent 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
The Liverpool manager said Martinelli was an “excellent player”, and that “everyone should remember that name” for years to come. Liverpool have just signed Diaz and Arsenal would not be willing to let their star go to a Premier League opponent but it is not the first time Klopp has praised opposition players.
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen has been praised by Klopp several times and his appreciation has been bolstered by the midfielder having a fantastic season. Klopp has previously said: “Bowen. He has become an unbelievable player. He was also at Hull but I don’t think anyone expected a leap like this. An impossible player. believable.”

Klopp also admired Bowen’s journey, as he added: “I like Bowen a lot. He’s come up from Hull and it didn’t take too long to show exactly the kind of player he could become. player in the Premier League. He’s made great strides.”
Bowen has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, but the midfielder has become one of West Ham’s most important players. Therefore, despite Klopp’s admiration, Liverpool may have missed the opportunity to sign Bowen.
It is a good period for the young English talent and for all the praise Martinelli is receiving, Bukayo Saka on the opposite wing has become an important part of Arteta. Saka is also the first player to make 100 appearances under Arteta and he is only 20 years old.
