The Trip star said he will play the much-loved Uncle Bryn again, but has no “burnt desire” to reprise the iconic role, seen in the hit family comedy Gavin & Stacey
Rob Brydon has revealed he has “no burning desire” to reprise his iconic role as Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey.
The actor and comedian, 56, says the BBC hit show has “changed everything” for him, but he’s not bothered about playing the lovable Uncle Bryn again.
When asked, he said of future episodes: “Nobody told me anything.
“And honestly, I have no burning desire to play Uncle Bryn again.
“If Ruth [Jones] and James [Corden] write another one, I’ll do it, but I’d be happy if the whole cast got together for dinner,” he told the Daily Star.
The much-loved sitcom, about the main characters and couple Gavin and Stacey and their hilarious relationship, aired between 2007 and 2010.
Written by James Corden and Ruth Jones, who starred in the pair Smithy and Nessa again, the film remains hugely popular and won numerous awards.
In 2019, the cast, including Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb, reunited for a Christmas special. The episode ended in a twist when Nessa proposed to Smithy, and since then fans have been longing for the show to once again return.
In October, Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, announced she plans to give up acting and dedicate her career to television presenter work.
However, the 4-year-old mother, 44, said that reprising the role of Stacey would tempt her to return to acting.
“We all wanted to know what Smithy said in the end,” said the Shop Well for Less host.
“It was a great job. You’re working with people who make you laugh all day long like Rob Brydon. Christmas in particular is like a big reunion. “
Speaking in October, Joanna said if the show did return, it would be “very unexpected” as was the case when James and Ruth contacted her about the special event, which drew 18 million viewers.
She added: “None of the rest of the cast ever expected us to do something special. We have no clue. “
In May, James hinted that there could be one last outing for Gavin & Stacey so fans can see what happened after Nessa proposed.
“It certainly doesn’t feel like the end of a book; It feels like the end of a chapter.”
But it’s very similar to the last chapter. He added: “I think if we do another one that will be the end of it.”
He said there are no plans yet, but added: “That doesn’t mean I don’t want to or don’t have an inclination to do so.
“When we wrote that particular book, we never really thought about whether we would do another one. But it ended so open, it would be a shame to leave it at that. That’s definitely how I feel, and I think Ruth feels the same way.”
