Great British Railway Journeys host Michael Portillo was among the first of a series of new appointments at GB News, the broadcaster said.
The former cabinet minister, 69, joins the channel’s political team and will launch his own program in the fall.
His previous television appearances include Great Continental Railway Journeys, Great Asian Railway Journeys and Great American Railroad Journeys.
Journalist and political commentator Andrew Pierce will also give a private gig later this year while continuing his position as senior editor at the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, journalist and broadcaster Camilla Tominey joins a new senior political speaker role, alongside her current position as deputy editor-in-chief at the Telegraph.
The channel’s new initiative will include a weekly national survey titled GB News People’s Poll, the broadcaster said.
CEO Angelos Frangopoulos also confirmed that GB News has successfully managed to move from Virgin Media channel 626 to the more prominent 604 spot.
The new recruits come after the channel received a £60m investment from existing backers Legatum Ventures Limited and Sir Paul Marshall, who acquired Discovery Inc following a merger with WarnerMedia earlier this year.

Frangopoulos said GB News was “extremely grateful” to Warner Bros Discovery for its “wisdom and support” during the start-up phase and that they “parted as friends.”
